Vocational Education and Training (VET) provides students with optional pathways through senior schooling while earning credits towards their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). VET students gain practical knowledge and hands-on skills training that can be directly applied in work environments and, thereby, enhance students' learning experiences. Assessment is conducted according to the principles of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and the VET Quality Framework, with a focus on both formative and summative assessments. Evidence of competency will be gathered and assessed against the relevant unit of competency, with a qualified trainer and assessor ensuring all assessment decisions are valid, reliable, fair, and flexible. The results will be reported using the AQF levels and will be clearly communicated to students and relevant stakeholders
Saint Mary's Catholic College, a Registered Training Organisation, currently offers a Certificate II in Engineering Pathways for students in Years 11 and 12. These nationally recognised qualifications help develop essential skills for employment. Saint Mary's also partners with a number of other RTOs to offer a wide range of VET qualifications.
Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in school-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SBAT). Through SBAT, students spend part of their school time working with an employer as paid employees, while still completing their QCE and obtaining a training qualification with an external Registered Training Organisation.
